Other features for the new iPad include an A10 Fusion chip. Apple claims that this chip will make for a 40 percent faster CPU and a 50 percent faster graphics performance including stereo speakers. Apple also announced that they will incorporate $10 off the new Apple pencil for educators. This benefits the schools that are looking to purchase these Apple Pencils in large quantities. Furthermore, The Schoolwork app is a part of a Classkit framework, which includes other apps that with even more features for educators to share with their students. Rumors Of New Apple ARM-Based Mac

Rumors Of New Apple ARM-Based Mac

According to DigiTimes , Apple is releasing a new ARM-based Mac product. This new ARM-based Mac product will likely be manufactured by Apple’s long time supplier, Pegatron. This rumor came  from a report on project “Kalamata.” “Kalamata” proposes that Apple is expecting to release ARM-based Macs in the future. The new Mac will include the use of a touchscreen, SIM card, GPS, compass, and water resistant feature that differ from the previous Macbook and Macbook Air.

The rumor, however, fails to comment on the use of the screen size, processor design, format, or keyboard, which implies that the new ARM-based Mac is similar to an IPad. The new Apple product, recently code-named as “Star,” will possibly be the project name under which Apple will release it’s ARM-based product. This ARM-based Mac will likely be similar to an IOS notebook.

Pegatron’s Mac Prototypes

Furthermore, prototypes for the new ARM-based product are underway. They will reveal the use of an Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI), similar to Apple’s Intel-based Macs. This suggests that an IOS ARM-powered Macbook will be Apple’s next move. Although DigiTimes did not release details  about Apple’s new project, it is likely that Pegatron will continue manufacturing these products. Pegatron will also ship these products to Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Rumors about Apple’s ARM-based products, however, started speculating in 2010. Apple made efforts to expand their CPU design group in 2010. Expanding the CPU design group involves poaching and new acquisitions for Apple. Nonetheless, Apple’s efforts to launch new products like the ARM-based product continued until 2017. In 2017, Apple released a report that they were planning to cut back on Intel. Therefore, other reports show a similarity in performance between the MacBook Pro of single-core performance and the multicore performance. However, the multicore performance includes the original 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

With new rumors speculating about the release of an ARM-powered Mac manufactured by Pegatron, it should be exciting to see if Apple will be introducing this new product soon.

Everyone Can Code: Bringing Coding To Everyone

Everyone Can Code: Bringing Coding To Everyone

In honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day on May 17, Apple is hosting events nationwide to promote inclusive design and to show how beneficial technology can be for people with disabilities. One of these programs include working with blind and deaf communities across the US in order to bring accessible coding to schools. Starting in the fall, schools supporting disabilities will start teaching the Everyone Can Code curricula for Swift, Apple’s powerful new programming language.

Apple created the Everyone Can Code curriculum so students of all ages could learn and write code using Swift. Teachers could guide young students using iPads with Swift Playground installed, allowing them to use simple code to solve puzzles and control animated characters, whereas older developers could use the same program for app development within iOS.

The Everyone Can Code curriculum is also compatible with VoiceOver, the most advanced screen-reading technology available for people who are blind or low vision. This program describes nearly everything occurring on the screen, and is

the most popular screen-reading technology of any mobile platform. Other accessibility features available to people who are deaf or hard of hearing include Type to Siri, closed captions, LED Flash for Alerts, Mono Audio, and Made for iPhone hearing aids. iPad and Everyone Can Code can also be used by students that have physical motor limitations by using Apple’s Switch Control, which allows devices such as joysticks and switches to control what is on the screen.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, states “Apple’s mission is to make products as accessible as possible. We created Everyone Can Code because we believe all students deserve an opportunity to learn the language of technology. We hope to bring Everyone Can Code to even more schools around the world serving students with disabilities.”

Apple Tops First-Quarter Sales

Apple Tops First-Quarter Sales

Although it was rumored that the iPhone X would be a flop, the latest sales figures are showing the exact opposite. After industry analysts Counterpoint published research on global smartphone sales for March 2018 it is clear that the iPhone X has topped the list, with Apple’s flagship taking a 3.5% share of the market–well ahead of Android. The next best phone after the iPhone X was also the iPhone 8, with a 2.3% share.

Counterpoint made an official statement on the topic: “Apple’s iPhone X remained the best-selling smartphone in March, dominating the whole first quarter to be the number one smartphone. The sales of the iPhone 8 Plus improved during March, due to a push from Apple making it the second best-selling smartphone globally.”

Apple generated a total of $48.35 billion in profit during its fiscal 2017, and made $13.8 billion during the March 2018 quarter. To put these numbers into perspective: the profit that Apple has made within the first quarter of 2018 is more than Amazon has ever generated since its inception.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, was quick to report that this was their best March quarter ever, with revenue going up in all major operations, including services and wearables. They also grew revenue in all of their geographic segments, with over 20 percent growth in Greater China and Japan.

There are several rumors in the air regarding a new iPhone release later this year, a couple suggesting the iPhone SE being unveiled at its developer’s conference, beginning on June 4 in California. Although most of these products are rumored, it will be exciting to see what Apple has in store for the remainder of 2018.

Apple Refreshes Privacy Controls

Apple Refreshes Privacy Controls

Although Apple is known to have several cloud scandals in the past regarding sharing data, recently they have been stricter with protecting their consumers. The latest in their efforts to keep data safe is going through applications that share data with third parties. Apple has been removing those applications once they are found to have violations as well as informing developers that the app violates two parts of the App Store Review Guidelines.

Apple also explains that developers must remove any code, frameworks, or SDKs that relate to the violation before the app can be resubmitted to the App Store.

Apple is also bringing refreshed privacy controls for its devices and iCloud services in order to meet the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) laws, going into effect on May 25. The new privacy settings will also include a new web page for managing Apple IDs, with new features and capabilities as well as more transparency. The new site will also let users download a copy of all data stored within the company, along with being able to correct personal information, temporarily deactivate their account, and completely delete it. These new features will soon be available to the rest of the world.

Apple’s Self-Driving Market

Apple’s Self-Driving Market

In April 2017, Apple received its first permit to test self-driving cars on California roads, now having 45 permits almost  a year later. Apple is now second behind General Motors’ Cruise company, which has 110 self-driving car permits in California, claims the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Apple is now testing more vehicles than its top rivals, including Tesla with 39 permits, Uber with 29 permits, and Alphabet’s Waymo with only 24; they had more than 100 in June 2017. Self-driving car technology has become popular over the past few years among major technology companies, with many of them betting that autonomous cars requiring little to no human interaction is the way of the future. These companies are also hoping their technology will keep passengers safer than human-driven vehicles.

Yet, self-driving cars likely won’t be available to consumers for at least a couple of years. For now, testing is critical for all of those companies to get their technologies ready for the “way of the future.”

Apple Creating New ‘AC Wellness’ Clinics for Employees

Apple Creating New ‘AC Wellness’ Clinics for Employees

The launch of AC Wellness is almost here.

According to Christina Farr (2018), a reporter of CNBC, Apple will be launching new health care clinics collectively under the name AC Wellness starting this spring. At least upon its start, the system will only assist employees where the Apple headquarters are located, the Santa Clara County area.

Under the About Me’ section of the AC Wellness website, this is stated in big font: AC Wellness Network believes that having trusting, accessible relationships with our patients, enabled by technology, promotes high-quality care and a unique patient experience.” On the website’s front page there is also a tab for Careers’ that upon clicking goes to a page that lists jobs that can be applied for such as health partner, nurse coordinator, acute care physician, etc., and a Contact Us’ tab that leads to a page that lets you write your name, email, and a message to the company.

The CNBC article also stated that Apple was interested in hiring designers” whose job it would be to help implement a program focused on preventing disease and promoting healthy behavior.” These designers” will be a population health designer and clinical program design lead.

The AC Wellness clinics will also be used to assess its expanding array of health services and products (Farr, 2018). Campbell (2018) wrote on the Apple Insider website that last month Apple announced its iOS 11.3 update, and through this update, the Health app would be able to have healthcare providers upload health records. Apple Taking Over the Watch Industry?

Apple Taking Over the Watch Industry?

According to Business Insider, Apple outsold the entire Swiss watch industry combined last quarter; it is estimated that Apple sold 8 million Apple Watches in the last quarter of 2017, the most since the product was introduced and the highest number of shipments in a single quarter for any wearable vendor.

“The cellular version of the Apple Watch was in strong demand in the U.S., Japan, and Australia, where all major operators stocked it in time for the holiday season,” said Vincent Thielke, an analyst at industry researcher Canalys.

With its features such as fitness tracking, heart rate monitoring, taking phone calls from your wrist and now LTE-enabled, the Apple Watch has its competitive advantages over traditional timepieces in the long run, especially now that technology is in such high demand and revolves around everything.

Total Apple Watch sales for 2017 was 18 million, which was up by more than 50% compared to the year before. Time Cook, Apple’s CEO, said revenue from the watches alone is approaching that of a Fortune 400 company, meaning Apple’s watch business is nearly the size of a company like Jetblue, with at least $6.7 billion in annual sales

Apple iOS 11.2.5 Is Finally Here

Apple iOS 11.2.5 Is Finally Here

Should You Upgrade?

Apple iOS 11.2.5 is finally here. However, there are a lot of problems being reported by users. This brings up the following question: should you be excited and upgrade?

What’s the deal with iOS 11.2.5?
The iOS 11.2.5 is standard like any iOS 11. It is compatible with the iphone 5S or later, 6th generation ipod touch or later, as well as the ipod mini 2 or later.

How do you update to iOS 11.2.5?
Apple usually lets you know to update. But if this doesn’t happen, then you can manually do it by going to Setting (on your device) →General →Software Update.

What are the negatives of this iOS?
There are a number of different problems with this new iOS, including ringtone bugs, lockscreen issues, degraded WiFi, and so forth.

What are the positives?
Though the iOS 11.2.5 doesn’t offer many positives, it does offer more than just bug fixes. According to Apple’s release note:

“iOS 11.2.5 includes support for HomePod and introduces the ability for Siri to read the news (US, UK and Australia only). This update also includes bug fixes and improvements.”

Even though there are a few improvements, there’s still nothing essential about the new release. What do you think?

Glass or Plastic: Which Screen Protector is Better?

Glass or Plastic: Which Screen Protector is Better?

Raise your hand if you’ve ever dropped your phone 🙋🏽 Don’t worry you’re not alone and chances are that you’ve done it at least once and went through the mini panic of revealing a shattered screen.

Luckily someone designed a solution to prevent cracks and scratches in the form of a screen protector. It won’t save your phone from every drop but it will add an extra layer of protection that is cheaper to replace than an actual screen. Currently, there are only 2 categories of screen protectors: glass and plastic but which one is better?

Our research shows that one of the main differences is durability. Glass screen protectors will crack a lot faster than plastic ones meaning their lifespans are shorter if you’re like me and drop your phone all the time. Glass screen protectors look better however since they are virtually invisible and are available in numerous finishes. Users of the glass protector claim that they sometimes forget that it is there since it has the same appearance of the iPhone screen.

This doesn’t mean that plastic screen protectors can’t hold up to the job. They will still protect your screen from scratches and are available in numerous finishes as well. The advantage to plastic screen protectors is that once damaged, the damage will not spread to the rest of the screen protector. The scratch will stay put on the screen protector and won’t need to be changed until it is unusable. These screen protectors may also be reusable but they will not work with all cases so it is important to check your case details before buying.

Plastic screen protectors are also magnets for oils and grease. By simply using your phone to make a phone call, the screen protector will pull natural oils from your skin and fingers reducing the clarity of the screen unless disinfected every time you use your phone. A quick search on google will lead you to “anti fingerprint hd quality” plastic screen protectors. Don’t be fooled, they will still need to be wiped consistently and they won’t be as clear as having a glass screen protector. These screen protectors will also not cover your entire screen as the newer curved models make adhering to the sides a challenge not solved by plastic screen protector companies as yet.

This article isn’t meant to turn you away from plastic screen protectors completely. Glass screen protectors are not the perfect solution either. If you’ve ever tried to remove a glass screen protector from a phone, you’ll see more cracks forming than the Grand Canyon. Similar to having a cracked screen, there’s the possibility that pieces may chip off after a few drops but luckily it’s cheaper to buy a new screen protector versus a new phone or repairing the screen.

Thankfully, they are durable and do not subtract from your phone clarity. You won’t see fingerprints or bubbles easily with a glass screen protector. There are different hardness levels so the higher the number, the more durable the screen protector will be, in theory. These are also available in full-screen coverage so even the sides of the screen will be covered. This may mean that your favorite case may not fit so make sure you check the compatibility of your screen protector and case.

If you’ve made it this far, I think it’s safe to assume that you know which screen protector will best suit your needs. To sum it all up, glass can give your phone an extra layer of protection without subtracting from the appearance but will shatter easier. Plastic lasts longer but will require constant cleaning to give it an invisible look.
